Alarming Footage Reveals Point Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
One police sergeant who jumped to the assistance of a colleague that got attacked by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a knife to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.
"Officer knifed," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife extended.
He struck the officer who stumbled and fell to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the pavement although being continually attacked with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the fight to an finish.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide assistance on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell received two open wounds to his throat and further cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.
The department stated Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stop his colleague's bleeding before medical personnel came.
The new honor comes after the three officers were granted internal Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional union branch in April 2024.
They further earned a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.
"The actions of each policeman eventually rescued one another and meant no bystanders experienced any harm."
Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, per the department.
